Need help with OwnFi, found a bug, or have a feature request? We're happy to help.

We aim to respond within a few business days. When reporting an issue, it helps to include your device model, your iOS or Android version, and a description of what you were doing. Settings → Export Diagnostics produces an on-device error log you can attach; it contains no financial data.

Is OwnFi available on Android?

Android is in testing, not yet on the Play Store. We're running a closed beta first so the Android build gets real-device coverage before a public release. If you'd like to take part, email support@ownfiapp.com with the Google account address you use on your phone and we'll send you the opt-in link. The beta is free and has the same features and the same on-device privacy guarantees as the iPhone version.

Why don't transfers show up as spending?

Moving money between your own accounts, or paying off a credit card, isn't spending — it's the same money changing places. OwnFi recognizes these and leaves them out of category totals, budgets, and insights, so a card payment doesn't appear as a large purchase on top of the purchases it settles. They're still recorded in Activity; they just don't count twice.

Does OwnFi learn from my corrections?

Yes, and entirely on your device. Recategorize a merchant or fix an import and OwnFi remembers the correction for next time. Everything it has learned is listed in Settings → Corrections History, where you can review or undo any single item. Merchant aliases work alongside it: merge the different spellings of one merchant and OwnFi updates your past transactions as well as future imports.

Where do the advisor's numbers come from?

Your own transactions. Every figure the advisor states is computed by OwnFi's own code, not generated by the language model, and each answer shows the period it covers, how many transactions went into it, and the categories behind it. If a number can't be traced back to your data, the advisor won't state it. AI insights are educational only and are not financial, investment, tax, legal, or accounting advice.

Is my financial data private?

Yes. OwnFi runs entirely on your device. Your statements, transactions, budgets, and other financial data are stored locally and are never uploaded to an OwnFi server. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How do I import bank statements?

Tap the “+” button on the Home or Activity tab and choose “Import statement”. OwnFi parses PDF, CSV, and OFX statements locally and auto-detects 25+ bank and card formats across Canada, the US, India (including GPay and PhonePe UPI apps), Japan, and the Nordics, plus a generic fallback. You can also scan receipts and screenshots, add transactions manually, or use the Universal Statement Parser to teach OwnFi an unknown CSV format. Screenshot and shared imports are confidence-gated: sure rows save instantly and uncertain ones open a review sheet — or turn on "Add imports without review" in Settings to save every complete row directly (duplicates are still blocked).

Can OwnFi capture bank alerts and notifications automatically?

Yes, opt-in. On Android, you can grant the notification-listener permission and OwnFi will turn bank transaction alerts into transactions on-device. On iOS, Apple Wallet purchase notifications can be captured with your consent. Both are entirely optional and can be revoked in system settings at any time.

How do voice entry and Siri Shortcuts work?

Say something like "add $15 coffee at Starbucks" and OwnFi's on-device parser turns it into a categorized transaction. On iOS you can trigger this hands-free with Siri Shortcuts or App Intents. Voice text is parsed in the app; nothing is sent to an OwnFi server.

What can the home-screen widgets show?

Budget progress, upcoming bills, savings goals, and exchange rates. Snapshots are generated on your device and cached in a shared container that only OwnFi's widget extensions can read.

How do I use the local AI model?

Open Settings → AI & Advanced → Model Library (or tap the Advisor's model banner), provide a Hugging Face token, and download the Gemma variant that suits your device. Once installed, the advisor uses that model on-device. If you don't want to install one, the deterministic advisor still answers questions directly from your data using pure calculations.

I forgot my password. How do I recover it?

Because OwnFi keeps your data on-device with no cloud account, there is no password reset by email. If you can no longer sign in, you can delete the local account from the app and start fresh, or restore from an encrypted backup if you created one. We recommend enabling Face ID / biometric unlock and keeping a backup.

How do backups and family sync work?

Backups and family sync packages are encrypted before they leave the app. Family sync can send a package directly to a nearby device on the same Wi-Fi network, or you can share it as a file through your device's standard share sheet — you choose where it goes. Nothing is sent to an OwnFi server.

Does the AI advisor send my data anywhere?

No. The AI advisor runs an on-device model when available, and falls back to deterministic calculations otherwise. Its responses are educational only and are not financial, investment, tax, legal, or accounting advice.

How do I delete my data?

Open Settings in the app and delete your local account. This removes your local financial data, preferences, model tokens, biometric session data, and scheduled notifications from the device.
